ABOUT GRACE

Illustrator for Hire

Hi! I'm Grace.

I draw stuff.

Here's a summary of what I do, please have a read and if you have any further questions I have not covered or to discuss commissions and freelance work you can email me.

FAQs

• What do you draw?

I draw traditional realistic portraits of pets and animals using coloured pencil and pastels. I also do digital realistic animal portraits as well as more stylised, illustrative portraits of animals and people.

• What experience do you have?

I have a BA (Hons) Illustration and have been creating artwork and illustrated merchandise to sell since around 2007. My freelance art and illustration has been growing for around 5 years whilst working a non-design day job and raising a family.

I am now fully freelance. I have experience with clients both personal and professional including retainer work.

• What is your preferred method of work?

These days I predominantly work digitally in raster-based applications such as Procreate using traditional effect brushes to create authentic textures mixed with bold lines and vibrant colours. I particularly like working with pen and inks when doing sketchbook work.

• What causes are important to you that influence your art?

Mental health, equality, and parenting are the main things that influence my work. They all sit under one umbrella for me and I love illustrating children's products.

• What do you draw for pleasure?

As a warm up sketch for fun or as stress relief I like to create sketchy stylised characters with their own complex back stories. I also enjoy creating patterns featuring animals and nature. I'm extremely varied in my styles of personal work, my instagram account is probably the best place to see what I'm up to.

• Where can I see your work?

I am currently displaying traditional animal portrait work on Instagram.com/gracewright.art and the more illustrated and experimental stuff goes on Instagram.com/grace.dahl.ink

• How long does a project take to complete?

That depends on the piece and my workload at the time. Communication lines are kept open during all projects via email and updates are offered daily to weekly depending on intensity of project. Digital single portraits can take as little as 2 days, whereas pencil portraits can take 2 to 4 weeks. I would need a clear and detailed brief to be discussed with the client in order to give a more accurate timeframe for the project.

• Can I buy your designs on merchandise?

I am working on integrating a shop for my most requested designs, so if you see something you like then email me and I can place an order manually in the mean time.

• Can I commission you to design me a character/illustrative logo?

Yes! I would need a clear and detailed brief to be discussed with the client in order to give a more accurate timeframe and price for the project.

• How can I pay you?

I accept Paypal and bank transfer. Payment in advance is required to secure my time at a rate of 50% or 100% depending on the project.

• How will I receive my commissioned work on completion?

Digital work will be sent via a Dropbox link on payment of previously agreed amount, whereas physical items will be posted on receipt of payment of full amount including postage fees.

• Do you have usage and licensing terms?

Yes. My work is copyrighted to me (Grace Wright) and you can read more about my licenses here. I'll update these periodically.

• Do you do returns?

No. Due to the nature of bespoke commissions I cannot offer returns for physical art. Merchandise featuring my designs are currently only made to order so please communicate and queries regarding sizes, cost etc. beforehand as items will be non-returnable. Digital work may be subject to revisions within reason and set time frame depending on the individual project. If there's any hurdles we need to overcome, you can email me to discuss solutions.
