HOW TO START A PASSIVE INCOME DESIGN BUSINESS - STEP 2

A CREATIVE MUM'S GUIDE TO BUILDING A PASSIVE INCOME BUSINESS, FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.

So hopefully you took inspiration from Dustin Lee, Chris Do and maybe myself (in STEP 1), and have decided to go ahead with your passive income business. What can hurt to try eh?

If you’re following Dustin’s amazing free email course advice then by now you have created something, however small, and asserted your online presence by opening a Creative Market shop or similar, or perhaps you’re just posting on social media instead.

Dustin’s advice for the next step is:

• Perfection is not necessary, it’s just a way to procrastinate! It’s more important to just get things out there and worry about the fine tweaks later.

• Step out of your comfort zone and do something you’d normally be too scared of being judged to do.

• Ignore the inner voice that says "But they might laugh at me!"

How I put that advice into practice:

• I started making brushes for Procreate and not worrying if they weren’t perfect. This is something I haven’t done before so found it quite fun learning about the different settings. It’s super easy to do, it just takes some practice getting the look and feel you desire. I'll be giving some brushes away for free to members to try so drop me your email of you'd like to try them out.

• I started this blog! Not even gonna apologise for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors.

• I made a video...watch it below if you want a laugh! It really took me out of my comfort zone and I’m not too sure how often I’ll do it, more to the logistics of being a mum than the embarrassment 😂

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED ON MY PASSIVE INCOME JOURNEY...

So step 2 is all done, and I learned that it’s hard to keep up momentum but I’m definitely on the right path as my enthusiasm is increasing. By doing something a different way, and having it be a little scary too, I’m becoming more resilient and confident. It’s taking all my will not to sit there and tweak everything little thing I work on. After all, it’s in our nature as artists and designers to strive for perfection.

Doing the selfie video took me out of my comfort zone, but I’m hoping that with time it’ll become easier. Fear of internet trolling is probably one of my biggest but I’m determined not to give a crap. I won’t get anywhere (and neither will you) by hiding behind a safe wall of ‘they won’t like it so I won’t put it out there.’

If anyone leaves constructive feedback, graciously accept and use it as an opportunity to make new connections. If they’re out and out trolling (hopefully not as likely in the friendly design-led community we’re striving to build) then ignore, block, and carry on. Believe in yourself, it’s the only way to fight that pesky imposter syndrome.
